A special two-day event (30 - 31st) with hands-on Día De Los Muertos
related activities, explaining the festivities’ history, symbols and relevance
to our communities today. Ofrendas and altars constructed with photographs, candles, foods and humorous skeleton figurines will be on display at the
San Jose Visitor Center. Visitors can participate making papel picado,
paper marigolds, clay skulls and skeleton puppets (all of which are
traditional decorations for this holiday).
A special Día De Los Muertos puppet show for children
will play during the two-day event.

Carnaval De San Anto performs its annual Día De Los Muertos dance
and procession ritual. The parade of dancing and drumming calaveras
will perform at Plaza México, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center,
and the Esperanza Casa De Cuentos, and will complete the procession
at Centro Cultural Aztlán later in the evening.

CAMINANDO CON LOS MUERTOS:
HOMENAJE TO THE MURDERED WOMEN OF
JUAREZ, MEXICO, AND GUATEMALA

With the participation of San Antonio’s Buena Gente from the Westside,
students from neighboring schools, and the Esperanza Casa De Cuentos
community will create an installation of crosses to honor the more than
1000 women murdered in Juárez and Guatemala.
The crosses will line the sidewalks of Guadalupe Street,
between Colorado and Zarzamora.
Additionally, jardines de cempaxuchitl and xenias
will grace Guadalupe Street and other community venues.
