Ofrenda
from the Huasteca region of San Luis Potosi
(Ofrenda de la Huasteca Potosina)
The 2007 UNAM Day of the Dead celebration will showcase an ofrenda
from the Huasteca region of San Luis Potosi. In this area of north
central Mexico here is a belief that the soul of someone deceased
is present in each of the people who come to visit the altar. Some
of the most salient features of the Huasteca Potosina altars are
the elaborate cempasuchil (marigold) garlands that serve as backdrops
for ceilings for the altars and the beautiful wreaths made from
cempasuchil and sotol blooms.
