Building Workshop and Presentation
Artist Luis Valderas leads this workshop that will
discuss the history of the altar in reference to the Día
de los Muertos celebration. Elements of the altar and their historical
and traditional significance will also be presented. Participants
are encouraged to bring their own materials and create their
own altars.
This workshop is free and open to the public.

This three day
event features hands on activities for
all to enjoy. Participants will be able to create their own marigolds,
necklaces of skull beads, skeleton puppets and
papel picado. They can also enjoy a sugar
skull and pan de muerto –
tasty treats to remember those which gone before
us. Along with these activities there wi
ll be story telling under a tree as done years ago.
Local artisans
will be displaying their art and crafts to
raise money for the National Park

The Labyrinth of Grief:
Healing
& Transforming
your Grief through Creative Expression
Workshop by Jennifer Martin.
In this workshop particpants will view a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation
based on the book The Hole in Me Since the Day
You Died: Using Art as a way of Expressing Grief, by David Labrun. Participants
will be provided with necessary materials to color and write in a
paper labyrinth and create a collage. Attendees will also be
invited to share their experience with the other participants if
they desire. No previous art or writing experience is required for
this to be a warm and healing afternoon.

Carnival de San Anto presents its annual performance ritual as
part of Dia de los Muertos. The procession
parade of dancing and drumming Calaveras can be seen at Instituto
Cultural de Mexico starting at 8:00 pm.

A Dia de los Muertos Family Festival
2008 marks the 2nd anniversary of our family festival.
SAY Sí Central will be filled with mysticism
and merriment as we mark the occasion November 1 and 7. Student
exhibits of traditional folk art will be joined by a curated
exhibit of "arte Popular". Traditional Ofrendas, family workshops,
food booths, artisans, live music and dance performances will
add to the high-spirited occasion.
Participants include SAY Sî Students, Paula Cox,
Rene Arceo of Chicago Alfredo Rodriguez and many more.
Muertito's Fest Fiesta attendees will feast on Mexican
regional delicacies, enjoy live music, preview the artisan work and
altars,
play Loterîa
& place bids on silent auction folk art.
Free Family Day: November 1, 12 - 4 pm.
First Friday Opening:
November 7, 7 - 11pm.
